Part One: Coping With Stress

At the dawn of this twenty-first century, people everywhere are experiencing increased tension in their daily lives.  The resulting stress may be due to personal problems related to health and aging, or to more interpersonal problems like conflicts at work, at school, in a neighborhood, or among family members or friends. The globalization of the economy, advances in science and technology, the politicization of religious differences, and the reach of the international media into homes everywhere has further increased our  feelings of mental and physical duress brought on by external events beyond our control.  In this module, you will read about events and situations that affect our physical and mental health and well-being.  In the first reading you will read about types of stress and ways to cope with stress, a timely topic in light of contemporary events that have had a serious impact on our way of life and threatened peace and security on a global scale.
