Workshop
Descriptions: (While these workshops are recommended for
specific levels, students at other levels may attend if they find
the topic useful. To attend, students must be enrolled in an ESL
Skills Development Lab Course or the Writing/Reading Center.)
Advanced Grammar Workshops: Using exercises from the text, Understanding
English Grammar, students will review grammar features
necessary for success on the WST and in advanced writing
courses.
Troublesome Words: Sessions
will deal with problems and solutions when using "troublesome
words" and provide a question and answer session
with students' own questions about English grammar.
Intermediate Grammar
Workshops: Using exercises from the text, Fundamentals of
English Grammar, students will review grammar features
necessary for success in intermediate writing and grammar courses.
How Verbs Work #1:
Students will review the three forms of the verb BE
as a linking verb and as a helping
verb with present progressive tense
with transitive and intransitive main verbs. Emphasis will be
placed on simple sentence structures with linking, transitive and
intransitive verbs.
Writing Effective Topic
Sentences: From recognizing well constructed topic sentences,
students will progress to writing topic sentences with a
well focused subject, strong action verb, and clear controlling
idea.
Song Workshop: Learn
vocabulary, pronunciation, and even some English grammar the fun
way by singing popular songs. |
