Workshop Schedule

ESL Lab Workshops–Spring 2024

Instructions and Contact Information

Some of our workshops are offered on Zoom and others take place in room L-120 (ESL Lab—first floor of the library building). How to attend our workshops:

    • In-person workshops: To attend our in-person workshops, simply come to the ESL Lab in room L-120 (first floor of the Library Building) 10 minutes before the workshop starting time. Make sure to log in and out on the computer by the L-120 room entrance.
    • Zoom workshops: To attend our Zoom workshops, please sign up using the link on the homepage of your ESL Lab Conference Canvas shell. Then click on the Zoom link you will receive in your email once you sign up for the workshop.  

To access our workshops, you need to be registered for an ESL Lab section. You can find more details at eslstation how-to page.

Workshop Descriptions

 

·         Adjective Clauses: Learn what adjective clauses are and how to use them to create informative sentences in your writing.

·         Commas, Semicolons, and Periods: Review and practice different punctuation rules.

·         Fragments, Run-Ons, Comma Splices: Students will learn how to identify fragments, run-on sentences, and comma splices, and they will practice correcting these types of mistakes.

·         Paragraph Development: Practice different approaches, such as outlining and natural questions, to write well-developed paragraphs.

·         Paraphrasing Strategies and Practice: Brief description of your workshop: Students will learn to identify paraphrasing and use different paraphrasing strategies to paraphrase effectively.

·         Practice Polite Requests & Responses: Learn ways to make requests and respond politely using correct grammar and expressions.

·         Recognizing Four Sentence Types: Learn the necessary parts of a sentence as well as build on a simple sentence to recognize, review, and practice the standard four sentence types.

·         Sentence Builder (The Start of a Sentence): Learn different approaches to improving sentence variety by starting sentences in various ways.

·         Summary Skills for College Courses: Learn how to write effective academic summaries.
